2017 St. Agnes Trivia Night–Oktoberfest

Get your lederhosen out! Oktoberfest is here! St. Agnes is hosting our annual Trivia Night. It is a great evening to benefit the students of St. Agnes and support the Annual Auction.

Saturday, October 14, 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Center

  • Bring your favorite beverage and appetizer to share with your table.
  • Sign up your team of 10 or we will put a team together for you. Grade level teams will be arranged as well.
  • Bring extra spending money that night as there will be games and strategies to help your team win!
  • Register online and donate online or bring your donation to the event. $25 cash or a tangible gift valued at least $25 or more.
  • Doors open at 6:00 and trivia starts at 6:30

  • 21 and over crowd please.
  • DJ lead dance party after the event

Fall Festival and Book Fair

There is a lot happening at St. Agnes right now!  Fall Festival and Book Fair…both great opportunities to support our parish and our school community.

FALL FESTIVAL:  It’s a great community builder…open to everyone!

  • Games and Inflatables—the St. Agnes School Families are expected to fill all the shifts for the games and inflatables.  There are 60, 45-minute shifts, so we will need everyone’s help!  The link to sign up is:  https://www.timetosignup.com/stagnes/folder/5121
  • Prize Donations—We have already secured 200 light-up yo-yo’s as prizes, but we’ll need more!  In the years past, we’ve set a bin outside the office and used the newsletter/school communications to ask the parents and kids to donate prizes for the games.  Could we do this again this year?
  • Baked Goods—The ever-popular Cake Walk will need baked goods for prizes.  We need each family to bring in a baked good for this popular activity!    Please bring in your baked goods by Thursday, September 14.  They can be brought to the school office and/or the teachers lounge.
  • Food and Wristband: $35 for a family of 4 or $10 per person.
  • Bring extra spending money:
    • PTO is selling t-shirts and car stickers.
    • Scrip will be selling gift cards.
  • Be kind to the environment…bring your own beverages and help recycle.

This year, we will be honoring Sr. Martina Rocker with cards to celebrate her 75 years of loving service as a sister in the Ursuiline Order.  Sister has been a parishioner at St. Agnes since 1957 and there are a lot of memories of her time with us.  Cards, photos, letters and stories of those memories can be sent to the Rectory Office or brought to the Fall Festival Homecoming!  Please join us in celebrating her commitment to our parish.

BOOK FAIR:  Please join us in The Alley September 18-22 for the PTO Book Fair!

This is an annual tradition that supports the St. Agnes library!  In 2016, we earned over $2,500 for the library and received 400 books in addition to the cash donations.  Thank you, thank you to the many volunteers who assisted and made this fundraiser possible.

Updates from Inside the Classrooms

School is underway and everyone is adjusting to their new classroom norms and schedules!  There is a lot of learning, exploring and growing going on.  Check it out:

Kindergarten:  Kindergarten used the STREAM Maker Space to build “Shade Structures” with a team! The task: build a structure with the materials provided to make shade for a piece of chocolate. Goal: set outside in sun for 10 min without your chocolate melting. Everyone’s structure succeeded!!

7th Grade:  The 7th graders are exploring kinetic energy and went outside to test the theories and graph their results.

Preschool:  We’re grateful for partnerships with our friends from Bishop Miege High School.  Some of the high school students come over to help out in the preschool classrooms.  Our young students adore their new role models.

8th Grade:  The 8th graders are learning about the Bohr Model and used Skittles to practice!

Updates and Reminders

Tuesday, August 22:  First Day of School!  (Noon Dismissal)  And, don’t forget the first PTO meeting of the year! Enjoy a cup of coffee and some donuts with your fellow parents to get the year started.  It’s a very informal meeting but a great way to reconnect or meet new parents.  All parents are invited to attend PTO meetings.  You do not need to volunteer or be part of an existing committee in order to attend and be informed. There is great information shared during these meetings and it’s a great way to stay informed.

Saturday, August 26:  VIRTUS Training, 9am, Parish Center.  This seminar is required by the Archdiocese in order to volunteer at our school and with our students.  Click here to register.

Thursday, August 31:  Back to School Night, 6pm.  To start, the gathering will be in the church and then after a brief introduction, all parents will proceed to the school and meet in their students’ classrooms.  This will be a time when you get to meet with your student’s teachers and learn about what his or her expectations are in the classroom.  This is for parents only and child care is not provided.

2017-2018 Kick-Off: Mark Your Calendar!

The enthusiasm is building! The students are excited to see their friends, parents are excited to see their kids go back to school and the teachers are ready for a new school year!

On Sunday, August 20, plan to kick off the school year.  After noon  mass, you can plan to bring your school supplies and meet your teacher.  Then don’t forget to visit the volunteer fair in the gym…there are a ton of ways to get involved and help make our school successful.  Finally, you’ll need some ice cream after all that work…the Dad’s Club is hosting the ice cream social outside.

It’s going to be a great school year!  Join us!

CYO Updated–August 2017

Don’t forget…with all the other details to pull together for the start of the school year, don’t forget CYO!

Here are some updates and friendly reminders:

  • Early Bird Registration Ends August 20th for Fall Sports!    The late fee is $25.00 per athlete. Click here to register today!
  • Pre-Participation Physicals are required!  Click here to get the form and get started.  These are required before your student can participate.
  • St. Agnes Cross Country team is forming! Come out and join the team!  All boys and girls from grades 3rd through 8th are encouraged to join.  You will learn about setting individual goals, experience a range of running workouts and enjoy the benefits of individual and team competition all while building a healthy body and life style.

The cross country meet course competition includes the following:
3rd and 4th Grades ½ Mile Courses
5th and 6th Grades 1 Mile Courses
7th and 8th Grades 1 ½ Mile Courses
