Project Lead the Way

Middle school students demonstrate skills learned during Medical Detectives.

Students in the seventh and eighth grades at St. Agnes participate in the Project Lead the Way (PLTW.org) Gateway curriculum: Design and Modeling and Medical Detectives. This nation-wide program promotes independent, collaborative, critical-thinking skills, which is part of our STREAM mission at St. Agnes.

Project Lead the Way uses the Activity-Project-Problem Approach in instruction. This format gives students the skill-set to work through mini, relevant projects that build up to a final all-encompassing real-world problem. Students have the opportunity to use their “essential or soft skills” by showcasing their design processes, critical thinking skills, and collaboration skills in a comprehensive presentation of completed projects, including a 3-D prototype completed in a PLTW classroom experience.

These courses give our students the opportunity to continue their proficiency at meeting the high 21st Century standards today’s new workforce demands.
